How To Make CBD Gummies: Homemade CBD Edible Recipes, Tips and Dosing!

Taking CBD often requires you to put a dropper full of oil under your tongue and letting an oily substance that taste like tree bark sit there for a few minutes. Doesn’t sound appealing? In this article we’ll teach you how to make CBD gummies to fix that problem!

Gummies are already a very popular way to take a wide variety of supplements for adults, especially for multivitamins. By adding CBD to your gummies, you get a tasty way to get your daily dose of CBD. That is extremely easy to take.

Benefits of CBD Edibles

CBD itself is a natural occurring cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that helps your endocannabinoid system maintain a balance throughout your body. As CBD has gained widespread popularity, scientists and manufacturers have found different ways for CBD to be delivered.

If you look at the delivery methods of CBD, each has its own drawbacks and benefits. CBD edibles are no exception.

Most people enjoy CBD gummies because they are extremely convenient, have a great taste, and can be taken with you anywhere.

Why Make Your Own CBD Gummies?

CBD Gummies are the top edible product you can buy, you’ll also see other sweets like brownies and cookies, but gummies are still the kind of the edible market.

That being said, why wouldn’t you just buy some from a good brand? You definitely can, and when we are in a rush we pick grab CBDFx gummies, they have a great selection and a high quality product.

We also like to make our own though, there is no better way to control what goes into your body than by making it yourself. Just like many store-bought items, many CBD edible products you’ll find are loaded with different forms of sugar and food dyes that are not overly healthy.

You also have control of the concentration of your CBD if you make your own. You can make them as strong or as mellow as you want, depending on your familiarity with CBD and what you are taking it for.

CBD Gummies Dosing

If you are using CBD Isolate or a concentrate product, then dosing will be easy. You will know how many gummies you will be making by the number of molds you have (yes you will need molds, more on that later). All you need to do is divide the number of gummies by the total mgs of CBD you are adding:

100mg CBD / 50 Gummies = 2mg CBD per Gummy

Easy, right?

Things get slightly more difficult if you are working with a CBD Oil or Tincture though. These products are normally sold with a specific milligram per milliliter (mg/mL). In one of our recipes down below we call for 2mL of CBD Oil. If you are using a product like Charlotte’s Web 60mg/mL then you’ll be adding 120mg of CBD:

60mg/mL x 2mL = 120mg CBD /50 Gummies = 2.4mg CBD per Gummy

You’ll see recipes that specify mgs of CBD and mL, so you’ll want to know how to figure out both to get the proper dosing.

One of the big drawbacks of CBD edibles is it has a fairly low bioavailability score. Meaning that a large amount of the CBD you take will be lost through digestion and never make it to the bloodstream.

This means that taking 10mgs of CBD oil is not the same as a 10mg CBD gummy. Much more of the CBD in the oil will reach your bloodstream than that in the gummy, so you probably want to take stronger edibles than you would with an oil.

What You’ll Need to Make CBD Gummies

There are a few basic items that you’ll want to grab before you start the process of making your gummies. They Are:

  • Stove
  • A Whisk
  • Saucepan
  • Measuring Cups
  • Silicone Food Grad Molds

You can get away without the whisk if you need to, but you will need something to heat the mixture with and the molds to form the final product.

CBD Edible Recipe using Tincture or Oil

The first style of CBD recipe that we’ll look at is if you are using a tincture and oil so lets get to it!

  • 1 cup fruit juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons gelatin
  • 2ml of CBD Oil or Tincture

You can use any fruit juice, but stay away from pineapple, kiwi, mango, ginger root, papaya, guava or figs.

  1. Prepare the molds by placing them on cookie sheets and place aside.
  2. Combine the juice and honey into a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Use a whisk to mix the ingredients together.
  3. Continue to whisk as you slowly add gelatin into the mixture. Continue stirring until the gelatin is completely melted and the mixture’s consistency is smooth.
  4. Slowly add in the CBD Oil, stirring constantly until combined thoroughly. Turn off the heat.
  5. Pour the CBD infused mixture into the silicone mold and place the mold into the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Remove the silicone mold from freezer and pop out each of the gummies.
  7. Store your CBD infused gummies in an airtight container in a refrigerator. They will stay fresh for 2-3 weeks.

CBD Gummy recipe using CBD Isolate

Our isolate recipe uses Jell-O rather than gelatin, meaning you can skip the cooking step! These are quicker and easier than the oil form, plus it is much easier to do the math for dosing.

  • 1/2 cup Jello
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 cup juice
  • CBD Isolate dose

  1. Prepare the molds by placing them on cookie sheets and place aside.
  2. Mix everything together
  3. Pour mixture into the mold
  4. Refrigerate the mixture 45-60 minutes
  5. You can either store the CBD gummies in the molds, or break them out and store them in a container

Final Thoughts on Making CBD Gummies

As we said earlier, you can buy great CBD gummies if you don’t feel the need to make some yourself but these two recipes make it quick and easy to make your own! Just because they are tasty, make sure you don’t overdue your dosing!

Professionally made gummies can often last several years, while making the ones you make yourself will only last a few weeks. That being said, making them yourself lets you control the ingredients, including things like sugar content and other things that aren’t super healthy!
