The Complete Guide to CBD Isolate

There is no doubt that CBD is hit the public’s conscious worldwide. With cannabis being legalized for either medical or recreational use in much of the United States questions about CBD are increasing.

One of the most common questions is how to use it. Along with that we often hear concerns about failing drug tests due to THC.

For many people CBD isolate will be a great option for a number of reasons. In this article we will cover everything you need to know about CBD isolate, including what it is, how to use it, dosing and benefits!

What is CBD Isolate

CBD Isolate is a pure, white, crystalline powder that contains 99% CBD. CBD Isolate is popular both because it is easy to use in a wide variety of applications and it is free of all other chemicals found in the hemp plant.

Unlike most CBD products where you will get CBD in addition to other cannabinoids, terpenes and plant matter, Isolate goes through a strict refinement process to remove those other elements. CBD Isolate contains 99% CBD.

CBD Isolate Benefits

Now that you know what isolate is, it’s important to figure out if it’s the right CBD product for your specific needs, or why you’d want to try it rather than something like a full spectrum CBD product.

Isolate has 0% THC content

One of the biggest drawbacks that keep many from trying CBD is its association with cannabis, and more specifically, THC. Many employers still frequently screen for drugs in their workforce and THC is one of those substances.

All THC is removed from a CBD Isolate during the refinement process, and currently there are no drug tests for CBD.  There is no reason to test for CBD either, since the physcoactive element to cannabis comes from the THC, not the CBD.

With many CBD products, you’ll find very little THC. CBD products are mostly made from hemp, and hemp has a legal limit of .03% THC. But, if your job depends on passing drug tests, using CBD in Isolate form is the safest method.

CBD Isolates tend to be less expensive

One of the biggest complaints many people have about CBD is the price. Tinctures, edibles and oils can all be very pricy. Isolate is a great option for price conscious users.

Isolate is normally sold by the gram, and it’s current price range from most reputable vendors is $25-$40. Many oils that have 1g (often advertised as 1000mg) of CBD cost $60 or more!

CBD Isolate Dosing is Easy

Another common complaint is that dosing for CBD Oils is somewhat complicated. Many companies will advertise the ML and mgs in a bottle, and it’s up to you to do the math on your own.

Taking CBD isolate is more like measuring out a tablespoon of sugar. All you need it the proper measuring device.

How much should you take? CBD isolate dosage follows the same general rules that all CBD products do. Everyone reacts slightly different to the product depending on a large number of variables, but here are some things to keep in mind.

  1. Start Small –  The recommended dosage for most people is between .02mg and 1 mg per 10lbs of bodyweight. This means a 200lbs man should be somewhere in the ballpark of 4mg to 20mgs. If you’ve never taken CBD before, start at the lower end.
  2. Stay consistent –  Many of the effects of CBD are not as noticeable as the ‘high’ you get from THC and may take a few days to notice. Don’t rush to increase your dosage
  3. Increase slowly – Same advice as your starting point, be conservative.
  4. Monitor for side effects – The side effects of CBD are generally very mild but if you notice nausea or any other adverse effects reduce dosage or stop taking CBD.

Remember, if you have any questions about dosing, side effects, or drug interactions please consult a local physician.

Ease of Use

We will go over all the ways to use CBD isolate later in the article, but there is no easier or more versatile way to use CBD.

How Is CBD Isolate Made?

All CBD products are made by extracting the desired chemicals out of the cannabis or hemp plant. The best CBD is made using either an ethanol or CO2 based extraction, leading to a clean, chemical free product.

Once the hemp is run through the normal extraction the concentrated CBD is moved to another purifying process to remove the rest of the plant material and chemicals.

This extra step runs the remaining product through a filtration process, removing other cannabinoid compounds like THC, terpenes, oils etc.

Lastly, a “winterization process” is performed, removing the last trace elements that should not be in the product.

What is left over is a white powder that is 99% CBD.

How to Use CBD Isolate

One of the best things about CBD Isolate is how easy it is to use. It comes in a tasteless, odorless white powder that is very fine.

Because of this, there are ways to use CBD Isolate through ingestion, inhalation, topically or sublingually. We’ll go over a brief explanation of all four below.

Sublingual

Probably the fastest, easiest way to use CBD Isolate is simply by placing a dose under your tongue. Leave the powder there for about a minute, giving the mucus membranes time to absorb the substance and deliver it directly to the bloodstream.

You can also make your own CBD oil using the combination of an Isolate product and a carrier oil such as MCT, grapeseed, or olive oils.

Once you’ve mixed the powder into the oil you can use it exactly the same way you would just the powder itself, or a pre-made CBD oil.

Ingestion

Because CBD Isolate has no taste it is also a very good candidate for mixing with water, juice, coffee or even in baking recipes.

If you are going to heat the product just make sure you do so at less than 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything over that temperature and you risk losing much of the CBD’s potency.

Another thing to keep in mind is when CBD goes through the digestive track you will not absorb nearly as much as you would through more direct methods like sublingual or inhalation.

Inhalation

Similar to making your own CBD Oil, you can buy flavored e-juice mixes to add CBD Isolate to.

We generally don’t recommend this for new users as it does require some knowledge of vaping to really be successful right off the bat. If you are not familiar with vaping it is easy to end up with a poor consistency, lose of product due to burn off, allergic reactions and even re-crystallization where the CBD separates from the liquids.

You can also Dab CBD, but this is another more complicated method. This involves vaporizing concentrates to produce the smoke that is inhaled.

You will need a custom dabbing rig to use CBD in this method, and rigs start around $50.

Topically

While a very easy method of use, this one also may take quite a bit of experimentation before you get the dosing correct.

You can mix the isolate in with a hand lotion or body cream and apply that to your skin in the same manner you would normally.

You’ll want to pay close attention to the quantities of CBD and lotion you combine, so you’ll have an accurate and consistent product.  While it might be obvious, you’ll want to mix larger amounts for something like sore quadriceps than for an elbow.

What CBD Isolate Should I buy?

Many of the same rules and guidelines that apply for other CBD products apply to CBD Isolates.

The biggest and best thing you can do is shop with reputable companies. What makes a reputable company? Glad you ask.

First and foremost, they should publish their 3rd party lab reports. This is the only way for you to know exactly what is in your CBD product. In the case of CBD Isolate, it should just be CBD!

These lab reports will also help you know that the CBD you’re using was extracted with a clean refinement process and is free of toxins or chemicals.

Our current favorite Isolate product comes from Kats Botanicals. While you are getting your CBD Isolate there, check out their Turmeric and Kratom Powder products, both are great for active people.

Our other go to option is from Endoca, they have a 99% CBD Crystal product (slightly larger pieces, not quite as fine of a powder) that has trace amounts of terpenes Myrcene, Limonene, Pinene and a few others which seem to add to the effectiveness of the product!
